Annual Events

October

Family Festival - Each year at the beginning of the school year, we hold a family day for families to get to know each other more and for students and parents to interact. This year we will host a Family Festival with stalls, games. This will encourage teamwork amongst the students, provide a project for parents to get involved in and work together in. Also, as an outreach to the community for neighbors to join and come and see inside the school and have a fun day. (Saturday event)

School Trip - Each year we take a trip outside of the school to enrich the program and learning of students. This year we will have different trips for appropriate age groups, Preschool - Grades 1-2, Grades 3-6 and JH. Preschool parents will attend with their children but parents of Elementary and JH are not required to attend. Details of these group trips will be given closer to the time. (Friday event)

December

Christmas Banquet - Each year in the week before Christmas concert, we have a banquet with a variety of foods. Students have an opportunity to experience an international style Christmas meal. You do not need a packed lunch on this day. (Tuesday event)

Christmas Concert - To celebrate Christmas we have a concert each year where all students can participate. We will have Christmas carols, poems and a Christmas presentation. This will be held on the 3rd Saturday in December each year, please invite your family, friends and neighbors! (Saturday event)

March

Culture Day and Fundraising - This is a time to learn about other cultures and raise money for a specific charity cause. It will be a time of learning about the food, traditions, trivia about different nations and cultures and supporting a charity project from that nation.

April/May

Lock-in - Elementary and JH students can join in the school Lock-in. We stay on after school on a school day and have fun activities in the afternoon, eat dinner together with the whole school, watch a fun movie and camp out in our classrooms. In the morning we eat breakfast together and take a walk and play some games.

May

Sports Day - Sports day is a great time for students to have fun and show off their sporting abilities, it is a great family day out and we encourage all families to come to support the students. (Friday event)

School Camp - Students from Grades 3 and up will go away on a school camp each year for 2 nights, 3 days with teachers. (last week of May)

  • British Hills in Fukushima - English immersion experience without a passport!

  • Okutama Bible Chalet - hiking and white-water rafting in the mountains by the Tama River.

  • Nagano - Northstar - mountain biking and hiking adventures in Nagano.

  • Foreign trip - this is every 4 years and for Grades 5+ only. 4 nights, 5 days away on a trip to foreign country with the opportunity to do some charity work in that nation as well as visit different sites.

July

Project Week – Project week is held at the end of the school year and is a time for students to engage in creative, life-skills teaching projects outside of the classroom. No classes are held during this week and each grade level will undertake several projects covering skills that can not always be covered during regular class times. School times will be the same as usual.

Showcase- This is held in July and is an opportunity for students to practice speaking or presentations in front of an audience, to memorize speeches, poems, songs and display their knowledge of both Japanese and English.

Graduation - This is for all students who are graduating from Elementary Grade 6 and Junior High school. It is a time to celebrate and reflect over all they have learnt and all the memories of their time at SIS.

4 and 5 year old classes continue to be accepted.
