Annual Events

October

Family Festival - The Family Festival is a special event designed for families to connect one another, and for students and parents to engage through fun and interactive activities. The festival features stalls, games, and collaborative projects that encourage teamwork amongst students, while providing opportunities for parents to participate and work together. It also serves as a community outreach, inviting local neighbors to visit the school, explore the campus, and enjoy a day of fun and engagement.

School Trip - Each year we take a trip outside of the school to enrich the program and learning of students. We will have different trips for appropriate age groups - Kindergarten - Grades 3, Grades 4-6 ,and Junior High. Kindergarten parents are expected to attend with their children, but parents of Elementary and Junior High are not required to attend.

December

Christmas Celebration - At SIS, our Christmas celebration is a joyful event that brings together students, parents, and the wider community to honor the birth of Jesus through festive activities, creativity, and fellowship. The celebration includes a special Christmas lunch with a variety of food, giving students the opportunity to experience a Christmas meal in a warm, family-like atmosphere. Students take part in decorating the room, and parents are invited to support with food preparation, making the day a true community effort.

In addition, the celebration will include a special Christmas performance presented by a select group of students. Families are encouraged to invite friends and neighbors to join in the festivities.

April

Sports Day - Sports Day is a fun-filled event where students can showcase their athletic skills. It’s also a wonderful family day out, and we warmly encourage all families to attend—not only to cheer on the students but also to join in on the fun.

Lock-in - SIS hosts a Lock-In to provide students with an exciting time of fellowship, games, and fun activities, complete with delicious food. The Lock-In may take one of two forms:

  • Overnight Lock-In - Held every other year. Students stay overnight at the school and must be picked up by 09:00am the following morning.

  • Evening Lock-In - Students remain for afternoon activities and dinner only. Pick-up time is 7:00pm.

Both options provide students with opportunities to build friendships, enjoy shared experiences, and strengthen the school community in a safe and supervised environment.

May

School Camp – Students take a 2-night, 3-day trip somewhere in Japan or elsewhere in Asia. The trip includes outdoor activities, experiential learning, chapel sessions, and a central theme that guides the experience, making it both educational and memorable.

Project Week – Is a time for students to engage in creative, life-skills teaching projects outside of the classroom. No classes are held during this week and each grade level will undertake several projects covering skills that can not always be covered during regular class times. School times will be the same as usual.

Speech Showcase- Is an opportunity for students to practice speaking or presentations in front of an audience, to memorize speeches, poems, songs and display their knowledge of both Japanese and English.

Graduation - Graduation celebrates students completing Kindergarten, Grade 6, or Junior High. It is a special time to reflect on their achievements, cherish memories, and honor all they have learned during their time at SIS.
