FAQs

  • Daily lessons start at 8:30am with assembly time in each homeroom. Elementary school finishes at 2:30pm and has 1 hour of homework time with the teacher until 3:30pm. Junior High school starts at 8:30am and finishes lessons at 3:30pm with homework time until 4:00pm.

    On Fridays, school finishes at 2:30pm for everyone.

  • You can order lunch through the school, or bring a packed lunch from home. The order lunch will be ordered on a monthly basis.

  • A pick-up service is available from Sano Station to the school in the mornings at 7:50am and the end of the day before 4:00pm. Please contact the school for more information.

  • Preschool uniforms consist of polo t-shirts and sweatshirts that can be purchased through the school.

    P.E clothes are non-uniform and can be bought individually.

  • Shield: represents protection, strength and safety. 

    Globe: international, all nationalities are welcomed. 

    Fish: salmon that swim upstream against the tide.  We want to raise up children strong enough to swim against the tide & stand up for what they believe in.  

    Leaves: oak leaves that represent strength and righteousness.  

    Isaiah 61:3 They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.

    Bible: based on Biblical principles our desire is to train a child in the way he should go.  To guide our students to make good decisions and choose to do what is right.

  • Preschool: Students who learn from a young age learn English in a natural environment much in the same way they learn their mother-tongue.

    Elementary (Grade 1 - 6): Students are taught in a full-immersion English environment with curriculum from US and Singapore at grade level. Students will all get to a proficient level of speaking, reading, writing and understanding English

    Junior High (Grade 7 - 9): Students will spend a greater amount of time studying in English in preparation for full-immersion High School.

    Varying abilities and aptitude depends a lot on the individual child.

  • No, all communication with the school is available in Japanese and English. Elementary students homework is completed at school or easy assignments given so that no help is required to complete them.

  • Sano International School does not currently hold accreditation but is a member school of ACSI based in the US and is working towards receiving accreditation with ACSI. In September 2019, after a consultant visit, Sano International School was given ‘Candidate School’ status which is the step before accreditation. For more information please see our page; ACSI

  • At Sano International School we recommend that students choose the main language of study by the end of grade 6.

    Japanese - For students wishing to study mainly in Japanese we recommend attending Japanese junior high school in order to get the necessary language needed in all subjects for Japanese high school.

    English - If students wish to continue in English as the main language of study they can stay on for junior high grades 7-9 with SIS. The classes will be a mix of online study with an accredited school in the US and in person classes with a junior high teacher. Japanese will continue until Grade 8.

    From Grade 9 Students may opt to attend an International High School in Japan.

    Grades 10-12:

    Online Program - We also offer an online program that can be continued full-time from grades 10-12 where students come to school and take part in school events but the content and curriculum is with the accredited online program. They will graduate from this program with an accredited US high school diploma and can go on to foreign or Japanese universities with this qualification.

    Oklahoma Homestay High School - we are connected with a High School homestay program in the US, in Oklahoma with an accredited school.

  • SIS graduates from grade 6 have gone on to Japanese public schools and private schools in Saitama.

    SIS graduates from grade 8 have gone to Christian Academy in Japan in Tokyo for high school grades 9-12.

    SIS graduates from grade 9 have gone to International schools and taken the IB program.

    Some students have gone to the homestay program at Family of Faith Christian School n Oklahoma for grades 10-12.

  • Yes! We are a school based on Christian values, however, we welcome families from different backgrounds and religions.
